Los Alamos National Labratory (LANL), a U.S. Department of Energy research facility, needed to self-issue interoperable credentials for short-term employees while maintaining compatibility with existing physical and logical access systems.
Unlike government-issued credentials, LANL had to manage its own badge infrastructure for short-term staff and contractors. That included smart card technology, HDP6600 printers with inline encoders and laminators, consumables, and encrypted PKI certificates for 20,000 credentials.
