Johns Hopkins, a healthcare institution with a network of 8 hospitals spanning from Baltimore to Florida, required card printer training to efficiently re-badge staff across its entire system.
The Johns Hopkins healthcare network extends across much of the US East Coast. Credential security throughout that extensive network depends on forward-looking planning, installing optimized equipment, and training within the organization to keep each facility running smoothly. Since 1994, K&A has been Johns Hopkins’ trusted partner in card printer training. Rather than fostering reliance on outside services, K&A’s training enables Johns Hopkins’ self-sufficiency in keeping its facilities secure by equipping its staff with essential know-how.
When K&A first met with Johns Hopkins security in 1994, they used paper IDs with a printed ID # and barcode inside laminate covers. It was clear that Johns Hopkins needed a more secure ID badging system, but even after an upgrade, they could easily fall prey to the constantly changing technology.
In K&A, they found more than a sales rep; they found a partner who could keep them up-to-date with security technology. Over the past three decades, K&A has been their guiding source for all things ID and has trained Johns Hopkins employees to keep current on every change.
The first migration from laminated paper ID badges to a digital ID system required Johns Hopkins’ personnel to understand the new software and know how to work the computers, cameras, printers, and more. Such a large undertaking is daunting in the best of times, but the healthcare environment made system uptime critical. K&A’s expert training enabled Johns Hopkins employees to understand and manage this new access control system in no time.
Now, over 30 years (and several generations of printers) since that initial migration, K&A still keeps Johns Hopkins secure by facilitating modern updates. As printers reach the end of their life cycles, K&A configures and introduces new technology, remotely trains staff on using the new printers, and provides repairs and quick replacement units when required. K&A’s unique approach to printer support emphasizes:
In this way, the current generation of Fargo HDP5000 printers is primed for success with an ID dream team! Johns Hopkins’ well-trained personnel handle the on-site operations at each production locations, and K&A Industries expertly maintains, supplies, and supports the fleet of 18 ID card printers remotely.
STEP 1 – Back in 1994, K&A managed the conversion of cardholder data, including cleaning and converting photos to be compatible with the new Software House badging software.
STEP 2 – Next, K&A developed a badge design and templates – the foundation of which Johns Hopkins still uses today. The original design has been adapted as needed through the years with changing technology.
STEP 3 – Once the new system was installed, training for how to properly use a card printer started with the Johns Hopkins staff in Baltimore.
STEP 4 – Following initial training in Baltimore, K&A continued to work with Johns Hopkins employees in all their other locations, making sure that with every update to the equipment and technology, on-site staff had the card printer training they needed. K&A is always available to address any issues Johns Hopkins employees cannot resolve on their own.
Over the past 30 years, K&A has assisted Johns Hopkins during 4 separate printer migrations. No matter what changes the future holds, K&A training ensures that Johns Hopkins can handle its own ID badge printing — from ongoing needs for new badges to mass rebadging projects.
